Kidney Health In Copenhagen: ISN Nexus Symposium

An eminent group of nephrologists, endocrinologists, cardiologists, and bone specialists met Oct. 12-15, 2006. This auspicious meeting on the bone and the kidney represents a vital step in translating the critical cross-talk between two key regulators of calcium, magnesium, and phosphate metabolism: the bone and the kidney.

Opening with Keith A. Hruska's (USA) lecture on New challenges in calcium and phosphate metabolism, the three and half days of exciting scientific discourse and exchange incorporated a series of stimulating and cross-disciplinary plenary lectures delivered by Nexus' international and highly distinguished panel of speakers (Rene Bindels - The Netherlands, Rajesh V. Thakker - UK, Steven C. Hebert - USA, Catherine M. Shanahan - UK, Paolo Bianco - Italy).

The Nexus symposium's unique blend of basic and clinical scientific sessions promoted dynamic debate by delivering cutting edge discoveries surrounding timely topics such as transporters, genetic diseases of bone and kidney, receptors and cellular mechanism of regulation, osteoporosis and renal osteodystrophy, and phosphatonins.

Specially crafted to close the bench-to-bedside loop, the four translational sessions were uniquely designed to attract both research scientists and physicians in order to signpost future directions and outline concrete solutions in research, patient treatment and care.
